Parent Resources
In response to a School Parent Council request, the addition of books of particular interest to parents at Connect Charter School are available through the library. The selection and inclusion of the books in this section are a combination of parent and teacher requests and recommendations, as well as those resources and authors who have been reviewed well in various authoritative sources.
Rather than aiming at providing an exhaustive or extensive collection covering all topics of interest, this is an eclectic collection of recommended resources specific to the interests of this community of parents and teachers. Of equal and ongoing importance are the selection criteria of balance, currency, and authority.
Subtopics located within the “Parenting” subject include positive parenting; gender studies/gender differences and the parenting and teaching implications; teenage brain development and parenting the adolescent; social/emotional development, and social issues such as bullying, conflict resolutions, etc.
Resources included for selection will focus on practical and constructive approaches as opposed to academic discussions and theories- in other words, selected resources will offer explanations sufficient for understanding, and follow through with practical, and varied, approaches.
Parents may browse the listing of titles with brief annotations in the collection on this webpage, or by accessing the online catalogue in the library or on any computer within the school. A “Parenting” subject search serves to gather all these resources into a single list of results.
Parents are welcome to request a Connect Charter library account be created for borrowing purposes. Requests may be communicated through email, in person of by telephone to the library. Delivery and return of the requested book(s) will be managed via their child. As well, most- if not all- of the resources listed in this collection, will be available to borrow from the public library, or purchase through the usual book vendors.
