Ourlibrary and learning commons supports and enhances the learning within our unique inquiry-based learning community, with the collection, the space and our services. Students and staff work within a setting characterized by collaboration, authentic learning experiences, and ubiquitous access to computer technology. Inquiry-based learning teaches our students to be information literate, prepared for lifelong learning in the 21st Century, with a disposition of inquiry deeply embedded into who we are as learners and citizens.
"A school library has never meant, “just books”- it has always been a gathering of resources, services and spaces for people, with a focus on teaching and learning (and I don’t think it has meant “shushing” for a very long time!). A school library reflects and supports the mission and vision of the learning community in which it lives." Donna Alden, Teacher-Librarian
Observe students working with other students, students with with teachers, teachers working with other teachers, small groups and classes. Sometimes teachers are offering instruction, other times a class may be interacting with a guest expert as a class. Students and teachers may be incorporating a range of multimedia and using laptops, viewing a keynote projected from the LCD projector, or interacting with the SmartBoard in our collaboration centre. We learn within a collaborative, active culture of mutual respect. Everyday there will be students in the library reading books, digital screens, magazines, and sometimes, even textbooks! We are a school library which has evolved purposely into an authentic learning commons.
